Fortnite Tips: How to Win More Battle Royale Matches
Most Fortnite matches aren't lost in the final circle — they're lost in the first few minutes, or by taking a fight that wasn't worth it. These tips apply to every season, whether you play Battle Royale with building or Zero Build.

Land with a plan
Hot drops at named locations are great practice for close fights but end many games early. When you want to win, land at the edge of the bus route or a smaller point of interest with enough loot for your squad, gear up quickly and move towards the circle before most players.
Loot fast, then rotate early
You need a reliable weapon for close range, one for mid range, healing and mobility. Once you have that, stop looting. Rotating early to a strong position in the next circle, with high ground or cover, wins more games than an extra rare weapon.
- Carry shields and heals in at least two slots.
- Mobility items and vehicles save you from storm damage and bad rotations.
- Mark enemies and loot for your team — communication wins squad games.
Pick your fights
Third-partying (joining a fight between two other players) is one of the best ways to get eliminations safely. Before you take any fight, ask whether you can win it, and whether winning it puts you in danger from other players. In the mid game, staying healthy is worth more than eliminations.
Building basics (and Zero Build)
In build modes, learn to quickly place a wall, ramp and floor to protect yourself when shot at — a 'box' is the most useful defensive habit. Practise edits and quick builds in Creative maps. In Zero Build, cover and movement matter even more: use terrain, sliding, mantling and natural cover, and never stand in the open.
Settings that help
Lower graphics settings for higher frame rates if your device struggles; turn on visualise sound effects if you play without a headset; and bind building and editing to keys or buttons that feel comfortable. On controller, try the 'Builder Pro' layout. Small changes make aiming and building more consistent.
Frequently asked questions
Is Zero Build easier than building?
For most new players, yes. Zero Build removes building, so fights are about aim, positioning and cover — a good way to learn the map and weapons first.
Where should I land to win in Fortnite?
At smaller points of interest at the edge of the bus route, where you can loot safely and rotate early to the next circle.
How do I get better at building?
Practise in Creative maps a few minutes a day, starting with walls, ramps and boxes, then edits. Consistency matters more than speed at first.
