Sea of Thieves Gold Guide: Make Gold and Raise Reputation

Sea of Thieves is a shared-world pirate adventure. Gold and reputation come from voyages and loot, and the biggest risk is other players stealing your treasure. Here's how to earn more and keep it.

Trading Company voyages

Each Trading Company — such as the Gold Hoarders, the Order of Souls and the Merchant Alliance — offers voyages and buys certain loot. Pick voyages that suit your crew size and selling the loot raises your reputation with that company.

Raise an emissary flag

Emissary flags increase the value of loot you sell to that company as you level the flag. They also make you a target, so be ready to defend your ship.

World events

World events give lots of loot at once:

  • Skeleton forts and similar events reward big treasure hauls.
  • Other crews often join — expect a fight.
  • Sell loot regularly rather than carrying everything.

Protect your treasure

Hand in loot often so a single attack doesn't cost you hours of work. Watch the horizon for other ships, and store valuables where they're hard to grab.

Crew size

Larger crews can sail bigger ships and handle fights more easily, while solo sloops are quieter and harder to spot. Choose based on how you like to play.
