The three roles

Every hero belongs to one role:

• Vanguards: tanks who protect the team, take space and absorb damage.
• Duelists: the main damage dealers who secure eliminations.
• Strategists: healers and supporters who keep the team alive and empower it.

Easy heroes to start with

Vanguards like Doctor Strange and Magneto have shields that teach you how to protect your team. Duelists such as Star-Lord and The Punisher have simple, reliable damage. Strategists like Mantis, Rocket Raccoon and Luna Snow are straightforward healers, and Invisible Woman combines healing with protective shields. Balance changes every season, so treat 'best' lists as a guide.

Team-up abilities

Certain heroes unlock bonus abilities when played together on the same team. Team-ups can turn a decent composition into a strong one, so check which ones your favourite heroes have and coordinate with your team in the hero select screen.

Use the destructible maps

Many walls and structures can be destroyed. Knock down cover the enemy is using, and be careful when your own cover takes damage. High ground is powerful for most heroes, and flankers can open new routes by breaking walls.

Climbing ranked

Play two or three heroes across at least two roles, so you can fill what your team needs. Healers win games by staying alive — position behind your Vanguard and use your escape tools early. Communicate ultimates: combining two ultimates wins team fights.
