Clash Royale Deck Building Guide: Make a Deck That Wins
Clash Royale's meta changes with every balance update, but good decks are always built on the same structure. Once you know the roles each card plays, you can build or adapt a deck instead of copying one you don't understand.

Every deck needs these roles
A balanced eight-card deck usually contains:
- One or two win conditions — the cards that actually damage towers.
- A small spell and a bigger spell for swarms and finishing towers.
- Air defence, so balloons and minions can't take over.
- A building or tank killer for defending heavy pushes.
- Cheap cycle cards to get back to your win condition quickly.
Watch your average elixir
Fast cycle decks keep the average elixir cost low, while beatdown decks run heavy tanks and big pushes. Most decks sit somewhere in the middle. If your deck often leaves you without elixir to defend, it's probably too heavy.
Win elixir trades
Defending a push with fewer elixir than your opponent spent gives you an advantage. Placing defenders in the right spot, pulling troops to the centre and using spells on several cards at once are the easiest ways to gain elixir.
Upgrade a focused set of cards
Gold and cards are limited, so upgrade the deck you actually play. Higher card levels make a real difference, and spreading resources across many decks slows your progress.
Climbing tips
Learn your deck's matchups, don't play out of frustration after losses, and watch top players using the same deck. Double and triple elixir phases favour different strategies, so plan your big pushes for those moments.
