Apex Legends Beginner Guide: Best Legends to Start With and Tips to Win

Apex Legends is a fast, squad-based battle royale where your legend's abilities, movement and teamwork matter as much as aim. A few basics help new players survive longer and contribute more to every squad.

Legend classes

Every legend belongs to a class that shapes how they help the team — from aggressive assault and skirmisher legends to recon legends that track enemies, supports that heal and revive, and controllers that lock down areas. A good squad mixes roles rather than three of the same.

Easy legends to start with

Bangalore (smoke and speed boost), Gibraltar (shields and dome protection), Lifeline (healing and revives) and Bloodhound (enemy scanning) are forgiving and useful in every match. Wraith is popular for her escape ability. Learn one or two well before trying more complex legends.

Movement

Sliding downhill, climbing walls and slide-jumping keep you moving faster than your enemies. Movement is also defence: a moving target is harder to hit. Spend a few minutes in the Firing Range practising slides and climbs.

Loot and rotate

Fill your loadout, then move:

  • Two weapons that cover close and mid range.
  • Shield cells and batteries plus syringes and med kits.
  • A knockdown shield and better body shield as you find them.
  • Use the map's jump towers and ziplines to rotate before the ring closes.

Ranked basics

Ranked uses Ranked Points (RP): you gain RP for placement and eliminations or assists, and pay an entry cost based on your tier. Surviving longer usually earns more than chasing kills. Play with a consistent squad if you can — communication wins ranked games.
